The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) announced that The Thousand Polleras Parade will be held on Saturday January 12th, 2013 in the town of Las Tablas, Province of Los Santos.
The famous Pollera is the most beautiful and admired national costume of the Americas. There are many tales related about its origin, but the popular opinion is that it was adapted from a gypsy dress worn in Spain at the time of the conquest of Peru and brought to Panama by the servants of the colonial families. It normally consists of a blouse or shirt and a two-tiered full skirt.
This cultural event has always attracted countless people. Last year there was more that 10,000 attendees. For this year high numbers are again expected with several students performances, bands, etc all in order to highlight the Panamanian culture.
