On Sunday, May 2, a tour of the Cubitá Project was organized for participants of the APEDE Forum, students and the general public, giving them the opportunity to observe the progress being made and gain clarity about the project’s importance to the region. In addition to increasing tourism and cultural education in Chitre, the project will include an on-site hotel school committed to providing quality customer service training to the Panamanian workforce.

The favorable reaction of the tour participants was evidenced by the many positive comments about the impressive efforts being made by Cubitá to offer visitors and residents world-class accommodations and service while maintaining and promoting local culture and values.

Come and visit our stand at the Fair of Azuero. We will be until Sunday May 5 Canajagua the building, Ground Floor, between Bimbo and TROPIGAS.

Construction of Cubita’s Colonial Chapel Receives Blessing.

Publicado: 13/11/2012 por Stefany Morrison No hay Comentarios

In a humble early morning ceremony attended by the staff and engineers of the Cubitá Wyndham Grand residential/hotel project currently under construction in the city of Chitré on Panama’s Azuero Peninsula, the Reverend Father Juan Solís of the Diocese of Chitré gave his blessing to the construction of the chapel which forms part of the project, on Thursday, October 31st. The colonial style chapel, with a projected seating capacity of 40 to 50 people, will be the centerpiece of the 100-room Wyndham Grand hotel, located in the internal patio between the hotel’s two main wings.

Quoting Psalm 127, Verse 1 of the Bible, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain”, in addition to other readings chosen for this special occasion, Father Solís reminded those present of the importance of placing God at the center of all human endeavors. He also expressed his contentment when the project’s General Manager Ivan Eskildsen approached him two years ago to discuss the project and the intention to incorporate a chapel which would host a weekly mass and be open daily for visitation by hotel guests, Cubitá residents and local community members of all faiths. Mass is tentatively scheduled to be held every Sunday at 11:30 a.m., with plans to include the regular participation of a choir. The chapel will also be available by reservation for weddings, baptisms, first communions and other significant life events.

In addition to the chapel, another unique detail of the project will be a museum highlighting the region’s Pre-Columbian and colonial heritage as well as the craftsmanship of local artisans. The construction of a fully operating chapel and museum as the focal points of the Cubitá Wyndham Grand project vividly illustrate the well-known slogan “In Chitre, no one is a stranger”, exemplifying a community which actively seeks to bring guests, foreign residents and locals together in culturally and spiritually meaningful ways.

Lets get this party started 2012! Queens, thrones, culecos, bands and the region of Azuero becomes the capital of The Panamanian Carnival. There is no doubt that it is the most anticipated event and activity of the season. Whether in Ocu, Parita, Chitre, Villa de Los Santos, Las Tablas, Santo Domingo, San Jose, Pedasi and Tonosí, the locals welcome the visitors with the warmth that distinguishes the people in the provinces of Herrera and Los Santos. Morning and afternoon you will enjoy the ”culecos” (people in the street watering the crowd with large fire hoses), in the evening the streets are  full of decorated trucks.
You will appreciate the classic rivalry between “the tunas” of Calle Arriba (high class people) and Calle Abajo (low class) with special musical compositions. The queens also competing with each other over who has the most beautifully decorated car and costumes.

With the proximity of cities, less than one hour from one another, you can easily visit all of the locations enjoy them all. There is nothing like the carnival, which dates back to the early 1900, to experience the customs of the people in Azuero.
Be sure and be there for the closing ceremony on the last day of the celebrations as this is devoted to praising the culture and national folklore.
